The first Friday I was in Colorado, and the kids were not on vacation, Kayla and I went for a hike. A very short hike in fact. But I wanted to see Boulder Falls, so we went  before heading to the Butterfly Pavilion and the mall.

Last Wednesday I took pictures of a 4 month old, a 6 month old, a 3 year old and a 4 year old. To say it was a bit difficult to get everyone to cooperate at the same time was difficult would be an understatement. On Saturday,we wore purple from head to toe we took pictures with balloons we smiled as we let them fly to heaven and the babies there as she marched showing us WHY we walk for babies every year. As if the love between sisters isn't reason enough.

Last weekend, I attended an 8 year old's birthday party, as photographer.Mom and grandma had planned a rockstar photoshoot, complete with make-up, hair feathers, microphones and guitars.It was a ton of fun and the girls got really into it.Not to mention that the cupcakes and decorations were amazing.

19 months ago, my best friend had a little girl. 3 weeks early. She had IUGR throughout the entire pregnancy and we never knew when labor might happen or how early the baby would be or how big. She weighed in at 5lbs. She spent 5 days in the NICU. Five long days. My best friend was lucky. She got to bring her baby home relatively quickly, but those five days felt like a lifetime. We woke up on New Year's Day with snow on the ground.So, we decided to take the girls sledding.But first!A snowball fight was required. Trekking up the hill. The perfect size for the five years,they played for hours. "If I close my eyes, I'm not in any danger, right?" Even the baby got to play a bit, although she wasnot a fan.  Watching the big girls was her preference for sure.

Taken in the Virginia City Highlands, before Christmas shopping. I find nature photography to be a struggle for me. I have a hard time decidingwhat to look for in a scene. One of the advantages to working from sunrise to sunsetis that I get to see the sunrise and the sunset. I've not spent a lot of time looking at those lately.But, I find myself in awe. Last Saturday, I joined a group of photographers on a photo walk in downtown Colorado Springs.It was beyond strange to not have people in my pictures, and it took me a while to get comfortable in that setting. Despite the fact I leave for Colorado in the morning,yesterday mom and I drove 150 miles the oppositedirection to see Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum and Love and Theft. We walked for Maddie today.We had purple balloons. Some floated away. While others left shadows in the grass. The four year old struggled with releasing the balloons. Until we talked about how the babies in heaven liked balloons too.And then she started asking questions about Maddie and why she's in heaven.It was a heartbreaking conversation to have with such a young child.
